Keychron Q1 Pro 6 Months Later

A long-term review of the Keychron Q1 Pro as a daily driver for software development build quality, typing feel, and QMK/VIA.

Why This Keyboard

After years of membrane keyboards, I wanted something that matched the precision of writing code. The Q1 Pro checked every box: 75% layout, gasket mount, QMK/VIA support, wireless.

Build Quality

Full aluminum CNC-machined case. 1.7kg. It doesn’t move on the desk. The gasket mount gives a slight flex that reduces fatigue over long sessions.

Typing Feel

Running Gateron Pro Brown switches (tactile, 55g). The bump is noticeable but not fatiguing. After 6 months, the switches are smoother than day one they’ve broken in nicely.

QMK/VIA

The killer feature. Remap any key, create layers, add macros all through a web UI (VIA) or compile custom firmware (QMK). My setup:

  • Layer 0: Standard QWERTY
  • Layer 1: Vim-style arrows on HJKL, media controls
  • Layer 2: Numpad on right hand

Verdict

Worth every rupee. If you type 8+ hours daily, invest in your input device. The Q1 Pro is the sweet spot of quality, customization, and price.
